Coolangatta Gold blog 3

The school holidays have come to an end and I have a few days off now to get things on track.  Saturday was my first full day off in two weeks aside from running my CrossSup stand up paddling group Saturday morning.

Now three weeks into my Gold program I’m having some mixed results, I set some pretty stiff target times for the weekend just gone and had a shot at them on Saturday.

The first of which was a 6km Time trial on the surf ski on flat water. My previous best earlier in the year was 26:50 and then I went off racing in Adventure events and missed my regular training resulting in a 27:50 last time I tested myself on the course.

Jarad Cain Time trialed as well, Jarad 24, an open Ironman finalist at this years Australian tittles is training under my program for the Kelloggs Nutri grain series trial in August and tested over the same paddle course 5 weeks ago in 28:20

The end result was 26:54 for me and 27:50 for Jarad who was paddling a Spec ski while I was on an ocean racer.

We then went straight to the track and did a 5km TT  I was hoping to do well as I’ve been running fast on my Thursday sessions- just this week doing 3;20 km pace for a 3 and 2km effort.

Jarad ran this same 5km TT 4 weeks earlier and finished in 19:57

I ran quite a lot slower than I hoped to with tired sore legs I struggled home in 18:57 while Jarad had a good solid improvement clocking 18:36

I was expecting to be ahead of where I’m at right now and I’m feeling a little deflated but as I always say you can’t get a bad result out of racing or Time trialing- If your go shit your motivated to train harder, If you go great your motivated to continue.

Next Sunday Is the Byron bay ski race so I’ll have a crack at that and the following weekend another Run Time trial to try and regain some confidence in my legs.

Also this week I’ll be hitting the pool to try and coax these shoulders into swim mode..

Highlight for the week was my CrossFit ‘Fran’ workout on Thursday after my great 3 and 2km run efforts I did ‘fran’ 21/15/9 reps of 40kg bar bell thrusters and pull ups in a new personal best of 4:26- 3min off my first effort 2 months ago.

Low light was I think a direct result of doing ‘Fran’ when my legs locked up on me during the 5 km TT on Saturday resulting in missing my target time by 90 sec

I’m looking forward to having some more time to train in the next few weeks so stay tuned.

Guy
